Splash a few drops of water onto the surface of your deck and see what happens. If the water beads up and remains on the surface, it’s still protected. However, if the water soaks into the wood quickly, it’s probably time to re-stain.
Since Merbau timber contains natural oils, it is recommended to use water-based oil on your decking. Merbau decking is expensive, however people love the look of it’s timber finish. You can always try composite decking or Woodevo which is a great alternative and cost less.
